Every color has its place – Yes, even grey! But for many of us, the big grey trend just never held much appeal.
I remember when I bought my current home in 2012. It is a 1967 build and was in great shape, but mostly original - gold shag carpet, avocado appliances, the whole she-bang. As we were ripping carpet out and pulling tack strips, I was daydreaming about how I was going to put it back together. I said to the guy I was dating at the time, “I guess I’ll have to embrace this grey thing that’s going on, but I don’t like it”.
He laughed at me and asked me what would make me happy.
Little did we know that it would be a stained concrete floor (three tones of rust/brown), copper orange in my living room, red in the family room/kitchen, soft teal in my bedroom, and beige throughout the rest of the house.
We are overdue for a change now… and I am so thrilled to see the four collections Sherwin Williams has developed in their Colormix 2023. #sherwinwilliams #colormix2023
We’ll take a look at all four of the palettes - Biome, Nexus, Origin, and Lore; however, for this article we are focusing on Biome.
Urban Bronze (SW7048) was the 2021 Color of the Year and Evergreen Fog (SW9130) for 2022. These two superstars really set the tone for this muted collection. It includes a mix of warm neutrals and greens that are subtle and soothing. I find the mix both comforting and enchanting – much like a copper bowl with years of patina.
I’m currently leaning towards a restful palette of blues and greens, so I’m using Biome as my inspiration, while adding my own twist to this color story by adding Alabaster, Repose and Leather Bound.
Alabaster will be most walls, Repose will be used in fabric and wall paper, Leather Bound is the color of my leather sofa and we'll play off of that to warm things up - and add the orange/rust tones I love so much.
Tell us what you think of Biome. Does any color or combination speak to you?
If you find it difficult to select colors, we are always here to help with a color consultation. From a single color to an entire palette for you home, we love helping our clients find their unique style.
